Principal Agent Model

Just like a lot of other classmates’ blog posts, I do not think I had a situation like this in my life where I had to be in the triangle situation with two principals. However, I have a friend who is four years older than me and she told me about what makes her feel drastic about her work that I believe fits well into a triangle principals-agent model. My friend works as the journalist of a top news channel in Taiwan. After graduating from college, she accepted the offer as it was what she was passionate in and was a decent paying job. She wanted to deliver the news on camera of the matters that needed people’s attention to, so that through her, those in need can be helped. Every morning, her team had an internal meeting on the topics that each journalist will do research on and also on the topics that will be broadcasted that evening. Conflict

First of all, I am sorry for this late post. I am in the midst of application season and totally missed the deadline for this assignment.  Living in an absolutely zero conflict may be awesome. Complete peacefulness is what I have always acquired, hoping not to see any turbulence that disturb my life. I have always been the type of person who cares a lot about how others think about me, so I always do act accordingly and try to read the atmosphere of the room. I am also confident that I do not usually offend others with my words or actions both consciously and unconsciously. I still...

Discipline & Punishment

Before evaluating the consequences of punishment in work setting, I think it is important to know what the purpose of that punishment is. Is it to get the work done more productively? Then, yes, often some discipline does allow a more productive result. However, if the purpose was to get the relationship straightened up, I believe is a very ineffective and not necessarily meets the goal of the punishment. Personally, I believe mutual respect, or some minor discipline, is more effective in getting the relationship function productively. Punishment and harsh discipline discourage at least to me and demotivate me to alter my attitude. What I consider a harsh discipline is embarrassing, devaluing, and ignoring. Shaming the particular employee/member of wrongdoing in front of the group often is the worst way of disciplining and getting the words delivered. It is a form of attack and attacks stimulates revenge, not repent. Devaluing the particular person’s work also has n...
